Carolyn Roberts Simmon May 10, 1955 - June 17, 2023
Carolyn Roberts Simmons, 68, of Burney Mill Rd., Troy, NC (Eleazer Community) passed away at her residence on Saturday, June 17, 2023.

A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, at Eleazer Church Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Wansley officiating.

Carolyn was born on May 10, 1955, in Montgomery County to James D. “J.D.” Roberts and Maxine Cook Roberts. She was a member of Eleazer Church and had been employed with Klaussner Furniture for 35 years. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, J.D. Roberts, Jr., sisters, Paula Roberts and Kay Huneycutt.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Simmons of the home; sons, John Simmons (Alicia) and James Simmons (Jamie) all of the Eleazer Community; sister, Gwen Parker of KY; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Matt McDonald, 40, of Clover, SC, passed away Monday, June 5, 2023, at his residence.
He was born June 10, 1982, in Mecklenburg Co, NC, son of Glenda McDonald and the late Ed McDonald.

Matt enjoyed fishing, working on cars, the outdoors, and he loved his family.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eddie McDonald; sister, Cathy Sanders.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sons, Matthew Hart, and Caleb McDonald; brother, Everett McDonald; sisters, Robin Caldwell (Jason), Renee McDonald, Susan Center (Brad), and Ginger Talford (Damenion); and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends, will be held 6-8pm, Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service – 1503 S. York Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052.

Jeanette Elliott Skeen July 15, 1941 - June 13, 2023
Sylvia Jeanette Elliott Skeen, 81, of Old Camp Rd., Denton, NC passed to Heaven on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Hinkle Hospice House.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, June 16, at Lineberry Church with Pastor Jamie Akines and Rev. Richard Gould officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

Jeanette was born July 15, 1941, in Forsyth County to Earnest Howell Elliott and Mabel McIntyre Elliott. She is preceded in death by parents and her husband, Ronald Howard Skeen in 2003.

She retired from Davidson County Schools in 1998as Principal of Denton Elementary School. She was employed in the school system as Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal for 37 years having worked in all grade levels during those years.

She was graduated from Denton High School; received a BS degree from Pfeiffer College, a master’s in education and master’s in administration from NC A&T University. She is a past board member of South Davidson AID, Davidson County Youth and Family Counsel, Salvation Army, a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and served on the board of Mountain Vista Health Park.

She was a member of Lineberry Church and served as organist and pianist for many years and held other offices at the church.

She is survived by son, Elliott Skeen and wife Cheryl of Denton, granddaughter, Megan Pate and husband Daniel, and great-grandson, Ronald Pate.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home and other times at the residence on Old Camp Rd.

Virginia Lemonds May 08, 1947 - June 07, 2023
Virginia Gerald Lamonds, 76, of McIntyre Lane, Troy, NC passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.

A graveside inurnment service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Hickory Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery with preacher Joe Beane officiating.

Virginia was born on May 8, 1947, in Richmond County, NC to James Harvey Gerald and Grace Irene Ford Gerald. She was a member of Hickory Grove Holiness Pentecostal Church and had previously been employed with Candor Hosiery, Perdue, and Wescare Child Care. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, James Harvey Gerald, Jr. Virginia was very honored to have shared the same birth date (May 8) as 2 of her grandchildren Garrett and McKinley.

She is survived by her husband, David Lemonds of the home; son, Donald “Frank” Baker (Carol Anne) of Candor; daughter, Kelly Barker (Greg) of Bear Creek; brother, Joe Gerald of Wadesboro; sisters, Corena Prevatt of Greesboro; Vicky Johnson of Candor, Pat Fredrick of Hopkinsville, KY, Doshia Kincaid of Troy; 4 grandchildren, Brett Barker (Gabrielle), Garrett Barker (Kinley), Brandon Baker (Maddie), and McKinley Baker; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Barbara Luther Chappell December 01, 1945 - June 05, 2023
Barbara Luther Chappell, 77, of Leach Rd., Candor, died Monday, June 5, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Graveside Service will be 4:00 PM Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Candor Cemetery with Rev. Buddy Maness officiating.



Born in Montgomery County on December 1, 1945, she was the daughter of Israel and Bessie Latham Luther. She had been employed with Candor Hosiery Mill. Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Marie Goodwin.



She is survived by her husband, James Chappell of the home; 2 sons, James Chappell, Jr. (Jannie) of Rockingham and Wilburn Chappell of Mt. Gilead; son-in-law Butch Goodwin of Candor; 5 Grandchildren, Kassie Rushing (Caleb), Kristin Thompson (Adam), Zandra Chappell, Stephanie Fields (Dalton), and Miranda Howell (Andrew); 9 Great-grandchildren.

James Howard Loftin October 18, 1934 - June 04, 2023
James Howard Loftin, 88, of Farmer Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at Novant Health Thomasville Medical Center.

A funeral service will be 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 8, at Pleasant Grove Church with Rev. Brett Chappell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Loftin was born on October 18, 1934, in Davidson County to Howard Kernie Loftin and Cleta Elizabeth Loflin Loftin. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Church and a veteran of the United States Army. For many years James worked as a mechanic and towing.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Randy Loftin; a grandson, Christopher Vestal; and by brothers, Robert Lee Loftin and Charles William Loftin.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ferrell Loftin of the home; son Greg Loftin and wife Angie; daughter, Robyn Loftin and husband Mitch McDonald; a brother, Vance Loftin and wife Priscilla all of Denton; 2 grandchildren, Sara Beth Loftin of Denton and Jonathan Loftin of Orlando, FL; 2 great-grandchildren, Dylan Vestal and Kaylan Vestal; and 1 great-great-grandchild, Dean Vestal.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Farmer Rd.

Gideon Macon January 25, 1964 - June 01, 2023
Mr. Gideon Nathaniel Macon, 59, of M&H Drive, Denton NC died on June 1, 2023 at his residence.



A private memorial service will be held at a later date for immediate family and friends.



Mr. Macon was born on January 25, 1964 in Forsyth County to Jack Macon and Frances Jones Macon. He was a welder at Thermo Pride. Gideon was a good person at heart, loved the outdoors and he knew the bible. He was known for his knowledge of being a good mechanic and was a supporter of the NRA. Gideon battled with epilepsy for the past 3 years.



He is survived by his wife Shelia Linthicum Macon of the home; a daughter, Christian Macon; and 2 grandchildren, Daniel & Kayleigh Henley.
