Bill Benfield May 16, 1931 - November 07, 2021
On November 7, 2021, the gates of Heaven opened and welcomed one of God’s most good and faithful servants, Mr. William “Bill” Benfield.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastors Jeremy Benbrooks and Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 10 am until 11 am prior to the service at the Church.

Bill was born in Avery County on May 16, 1931, to Joe Lum Benfield and Dora Lee Benfield. He was a strong, hardworking man raised in the mountains of North Carolina. The only thing stronger than his physical strength was his desire to serve God. He served the Lord for twenty plus years as the custodian of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church. He was also well-known as the owner and operator of Benfield Floor Sanding. Mr. Benfield was a constant witness for God, not only by words, but also in deeds. On July 7, 1949, he married the love of his life, Hilda Yarbrough Benfield who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanette Wilson; a son, Theodore “Buddy” Brown; eight brothers; and two sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Lynda Surratt (Jerry), and Ada Lara all of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Rita Brown; eleven grandchildren, Raymonette Workman, Suzie Brinkley, Jeff Everhart, Wesley Surratt, Julie Everhart, Bobby Surratt, Lori Everhart Hughes, Kelli Brown Ridgeway, Jerriane Johnson, Wayne Surratt, and RJ Surratt; twenty six great-grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; and his church family that he loved so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sheets Memorial Baptist Christian School at 307 Holt St

Lexington, NC 27292.
