Maurice (Pop) Kilgore Hodges May 18, 1937 - June 18, 2023
Maurice (Pop) Kilgore Hodges Jr. age 86, transitioned to his Heavenly home Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Hospice House after a period of declining health.



A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm Friday June 23, 2023, in Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Koontz and Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral and other times at the son’s house 109 Serenity Lane, Lexington NC 27295.



Pop was born in Norfolk Virginia on May 18, 1937, to Maurice Kilgore Hodges Sr. and Helen Fowler Hodges. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired as the director of Safety for Billings Freight Systems. He was a charter member of D.C. Fireman’s Honor Guard and served as Chaplin, He was treasurer, of the D.C. Rescue Squad, a member of American Legion Post 8, treasurer, of the D.C. Public Safety Assoc. Inc. was a recipient of the Long Leaf Pine Award, treasurer of the D.C. Fireman’s Fraternal Death Benefit and a member of West Lexington Fire and Rescue for over 35 years. He was a certified Chinese Interpreter serving in the Far East theater.





Pop loved serving his Lord and Savior and had a Gospel singing ministry for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being outside, playing golf, feeding and watching his birds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maurlen Lutz and Sarah Scherbarth.


He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years Patricia Patterson Hodges; son, Maurice (Mo-Mo) Kilgore Hodges III and wife Angie of Lexington; daughters Cindy Hedrick and husband Skip Yeager of Georgetown SC and Catherine (Cathy) Kinney of Lexington; six grandchildren Ashley Hedrick and husband Tom Schneller, Matthew and Lauryn Kinney, Dustin, Dylan and Sierra Hodges; 3 great-grandchildren, Emma, James, and John Schneller and several nieces and nephews.
