Merle Reid Scott January 31, 1944 - June 18, 2023
Merle Reid Scott, born January 31, 1944, lost her hard-fought battle with lung cancer on June 18, 2023.
Born and raised in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mearlene Cecil Reid. She was educated in the Davidson County School System, graduating from North Davidson High School in 1962. On June 23, 1962, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Gray Scott at the Friedberg Church Parsonage and was married by the Reverend William Marshall. They had three children and lived a long happy life together until his passing in 2004.

She worked at RJ Reynolds, retiring in 2000. After retirement, she and Kenneth moved from Davidson County to live their dream at Lake Norman boating, swimming, and fishing. Merle also loved working with and admiring her flowers, watching the greedy birds in the birdfeeders, and listening to a variety of music.

Merle had a love for life. Her smile was contagious and would light up a room. She was a shining star that people would gravitate to. You wanted to be her friend as soon as you met her. She loved spending time with her family, going on family trips when her children were younger, and having family cookouts and get-togethers. She also valued spending time with her friends, whether it was traveling all over the world or playing a feisty game of cards during the week. She was a caring person, volunteering for various organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Hospice of Catawba County, food pantries, and soup kitchens.

Merle was proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Mearlene Reid, her loving husband of 42 years Kenneth Gray Scott, and her two brothers, Joe Reid, and Larry Reid.

Merle is survived by her three children, Charles Keith Scott (Beverly) of Southmont, Angela Dawn Scott of Winston-Salem, and Kimberley Ann Banks (Chip) of Kernersville. While she loved her children, her two surviving grandsons, Zachary Taylor Scott (Parul) of Cornelius and Henry Gray Banks of Kernersville, were the true lights of her life. She is also survived by her sister Pat Watson (Herb) of Winston-Salem and her sister-in-law Mary Ann Scott (Farrell) of Wilmington.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Novant Cancer Institute, Carolinas Pain Institute, Provision Radiation Therapy in Knoxville, TN, and Trellis Supportive Care for all their care and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to donate in Merle’s name to one of the previously named organizations or the American Cancer Society.

The staff at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel is serving the family.
