Betty Ann Stokes November 02, 1934 - October 30, 2021
Betty Jones Stokes age 86 of Lexington passed away Saturday October 30, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. It was Betty’s wish that services be held privately.

Betty was an extraordinarily kind and selfless person who above all was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking for her family and engaging with them in a wide variety of recreational activities such as bowling, tennis, Wii golf, Rook, Scrabble and many board games. She was an animal lover, and when a lifelong struggle with COPD meant she could no longer be so active, she loved watching The Incredible Dr. Pol on TV.
When she fell in her home and fractured her femur recently, Betty required emergency surgery followed by admission to the Trauma ICU at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. After a few days in the hospital it looked as though she might recover, but then complications from the surgery overwhelmed the body that had carried her so far and done so much for others. She died on October 30, 2021, in the hospital surrounded by her children.

Betty put her faith in Jesus Christ, and she looked forward to her daily devotions as well as sharing the good news of her faith with others. She lived her faith and believed in helping the less fortunate. She was a committed supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to which memorial contributions can be sent in lieu of flowers.

Mrs. Stokes was born November 2, 1934 in Faltville Virginia to John Thomas Jones and Myrtle Louise Cheeks Jones. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Her parents, husband, Landon Stokes and a brother, Curtis Jones preceded her in death.

Surviving are her daughters, Lana Stokes of Lexington and Patricia Everhart (Eugene) of Winston Salem. Her sons, John Stokes of Lexington and Donald Stokes of Huntersville. Three grandchildren: Shannon Carnes (Sean), April Leonard (Doug) and Stephen Stokes and four great grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Rosemary Staples (Bill) and a sister in law, Rita Jones.

Memorials may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
