Mr. Gary Curtis Cook age 78 of South NC Hwy # 109, Denton, NC died Tuesday, August 8 at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.



A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 12 at Alleghany Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Fred Ingle. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.



The family will see friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday at Briggs Funeral Home.



Mr. Cook was born October 17, 1944 in Davidson County to Bryce Cook and Janie Dorsett Cook. He was a member of Alleghany Methodist Church He had worked as a machine technician in the hosiery manufacturing industry and had been employed with Bossong Hosiery in Asheboro. He was preceded in death by his parents and by brothers, Steve, Ricky and Larry Van. Gary loved to travel and spend time fishing. He also enjoyed going to the Beach.



He is survived by his wife Carol Staples Cook of the home; sons Tony Cook and wife Karen of Troy, Wayne Cook and wife Tracy of Mt Gilead, Donnie Cook of Richfield and Bryson Cook of Denton; brother Roger Cook and wife Cheryl of Denton; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 13 at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Canaan United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will see friends from 5:00 until 7:00 PM Saturday at Briggs Funeral Home.

Thomas Allen Tennant September 22, 1941 - August 07, 2023
Thomas Allen Tennant, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on August 7, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born on September 22, 1941, in Fairmont, West Virginia, to his late parents Leslie and Ruby Tennant.

Thomas was a devoted husband to his late wife, Connie Kiser Tennant, and a loving father to his son Scott Tennant (Kelly), and daughter Melanie Crites. He cherished his role as a grandfather to April Hamilton (Joey) and Ally Prince (Riley) and as a great-grandfather to Nolan and Ethan Hamilton.

He is preceded in death, by a son-in-law, Dennis Crites.

Thomas dedicated many years of his life to his work. He was employed at Phillips Lighting, where he served as a Machine Attendant. His strong work ethic and dedication were an inspiration to those around him.

In addition to his professional achievements, Thomas found joy in the company of his family and friends. He had a warm heart and a generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer a kind word. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service to celebrate Thomas’s life will be held on August 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel followed by Entombment in the mausoleum at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their fond memories of Thomas on Thursday evening August 10, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Kristy Cruz Ballesteros Nelson December 29, 1981 - August 05, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kristy Cruz Ballesteros Nelson, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister. On August 5, 2023, after a brave three-year battle with stage 4 cancer, Kristy peacefully departed, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends who stood by her side during her courageous journey.

Kristy’s strength and resilience in the face of adversity was truly remarkable. She will forever be remembered for the love she showered upon her cherished son, Calvin, and her daughter, Alexis. As a mother, her devotion knew no bounds, and the precious memories she created will be treasured for generations to come.

In celebration of Kristy’s beautiful life, we honor her for exemplifying strength, love, and selflessness. Her spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Kristy’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her beloved husband, Tim Nelson, her parents, Ernesto and Thelma Ballesteros, her brother Aries Ballesteros, her sister Cheryll Ballesteros, and her daughter, Alexis Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made in Kristy’s name to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Eva Murphy Rielly August 04, 1947 - August 07, 2023
Eva Murphy Reilly, 76, of Lexington, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, August 7, 2023, at her residence with loved ones.

A celebration of life service is scheduled to take place on September 16, 2023, in Connecticut.


Mrs. Reilly was born on August 4, 1947, in Bridgeport, CT, the daughter of Arthur W. Murphy and Dora Legere Murphy. She received her Master of Business Administration degree. Eva was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church in Connecticut and was a longtime volunteer with Newtown Ambulance Corps. Following her retirement after a long career with Duracell as a financial manger she opened Nana’s Infant & Children’s Boutique in Glastonbury, CT.


In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by an infant son; a sister, Faye Murphy; cherished grandsons, Ayden and Lincoln Palmer; daughter-in-law, Brittany Carter; father-in-law, Victor Reilly; and brother-in-law, John Reilly.


She is survived by her husband, Michael Reilly of the home; son, Dennis Palmer of Lexington NC; daughter, Tammy Hegarty and her husband Sean of Newton MA; grandsons, Jack, Sam, and Ben; her mother-in-law, Doris Reilly of Southbury CT; brothers, Arthur Murphy and his wife JoAnn of Harleysville PA, and Tommy Murphy of Brookfield CT; her sisters, Beverly Sykes of South Portland ME, Jean Boisvert and her husband, Norm of Easton, NH; Toni Bowes of Miami FL, Maureen Payuk and her husband, Michael of Fort Pierce FL, Maria Dunn and her husband, Henry of Princeton WV, Michelle Rose and her husband, Tim of Southbury CT; brother-in-law Patrick Reilly and his wife Meg of Newtown CT; sister-in-law Suzanne Reilly and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Barbara Jean Louya Bowers, 86, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023, at her home surrounded by family.



A funeral service will be held 11 AM Friday, August 11, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ Cemetery.



The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the funeral home.



Mrs. Bowers was born August 19, 1936, in Davidson County, to Mr. John Q. Louya and Mrs. Willie Bell Fritts Louya. She was a dedicated member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Throughout her life, Barbara enjoyed traveling- particularly to the beach and the mountains; and fishing was also another pastime that she greatly loved. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Charles Bowers; one son, Michael Eugene Bowers; one brother, Paul Louya; and five sisters, Blanche Crotts, Arlene Berrier, Ruth Sisk, Elizabeth Burcham, and Beulah Morgan.



Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jane Simmons of Lexington; one sister, Betty Shaw of Lexington; two grandchildren, Beverly Hensley (Dwayne), and Shelley Simmons (Henry); and two great-grandchildren, Bailey, and Taylor (Payton).
