He was born in Lexington, North Carolina on August 11th, 1939. His childhood in Lexington instilled a lifelong passion for bass fishing and he loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen. He was the owner and creator of Jerry’s Carpet Company and Lohr’s Lures which brought joy to his family and fellow fishermen. He had a laugh and sense of humor that everyone adored and will genuinely miss.

He leaves behind his children Brant Lohr, Sherry Perdue (David), and Marty Lohr (Laura); his grandchildren Cassie Rowles (Adam), Jerry Curtiss (Natalie), Kerry Williamson (Hunter), Kristy Perdue, Skylar Lohr and Bill Lohr; his great-grandchildren Rileagh Curtiss, Parker Curtiss, and Jaylyn Bee; his 21 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Brantley and Lillie Jane Lohr and his five brothers and three sisters.

Betty Elliott Fowler September 28, 1930 - May 15, 2023
Betty Sue Elliott Fowler, 92, formerly of New Hope Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, at Cross Road Retirement Community in Asheboro.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 17, at Calvary Gospel Church Cemetery conducted by her daughter, Donna Hogan, and her grandson, Dustin Elledge.

Betty was born on September 28, 1930, in Stanly County, NC to Lloyd Elliott and Stella Stafford Elliott. She retired from Randolph Telephone Company and was a member of Calvary Gospel Church. Also, she was an avid reader of magazines and newspapers. She enjoyed gardening and her many cats. In addition to her parents Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Fowler.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna Elledge Hogan (Terry); and a grandson, Dustin Lloyd Elledge (Charlie).

Pablo Jose Cruz Parrazal, 19, of E. Harris St., Candor, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Mt. Gilead. Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Our Lady of the Americas Catholic Church, with Father Ricardo Sanchez officiating. Burial will follow in the Biscoe Cemetery.



Born in Moore County on February 5, 2004, he was the son of Hipolita Cruz and Francisco Parrazal. He was employed at Jordan Lumber Company.



He is survived by his parents; a brother, Eddy Roberto Cruz Parrazal of Biscoe; a sister, Laura Cruz Parrazal of Candor; a neice, Iliana Kaeli Parrazal.

Joel L. Sexton October 07, 1955 - May 09, 2023
Joel Lynn Sexton, 67, of Gallimore Rd., Denton, NC passed away on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Central United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sexton was born October 7, 1955, in Davidson County to the late William Harold “Bill” Sexton and the late Joanne Davis Pope. He was a graduate of Denton High School “Class of 1973” and was of the Methodist faith. Being an avid outdoorsman, Joel loved farming, cattle, hunting, and horses. Most of all, he loved spending time with his daughters. In addition to his parents, Joel was also preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Sexton.

He is survived by his daughters, Crystal Sexton and Allison Sexton both of Denton; sister-in-law, Denise Sexton of Denton; nephew, Brian Sexton (Michelle) of Greensboro.

Dorothy C Lax
Gone to her Heavenly home. Dorothy C Lax age 89 of Lexington was born in Davie County to Perley L. Carter and Celia Allen Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents, also her first husband, Douglas Williams, Second husband, Edward W. Lax, 3 brothers, Clyde Carter, Nicholas Carter and Lawrence Carter, sisters, Gertrude Crews, Velma Lois Harrison, and Ruth Watts. Also, two darling grandchildren, John Erie Harris and Brandi Roxanne Harris.



A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Michael McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.



Left to cherish her memories are devoted and loving children, two daughters, Debbie Overby of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Marcia Harris, one son, Steve Williams. Two Darling grandsons Chad Kepley and Josh Harris, and one darling great grandson, Isaiah John Harris, all of Lexington; and one half-sister, Gail Frye of Cooleemee, NC, also surviving are several nieces and nephews which she loved as well.



Dot retired from PPG in 1995, where she met many nice people, she was a member of Curry Town Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the adult choir. God, her family and her church was the love of her life. She loved people and doing things for others was her joy. Dot had many hobbies; she spent a considerable time in her yard developing areas with a variety of plants and trees, but the dogwood was her favorite of all trees. Dorothy also developed the gift of creating custom greeting cards to share her love of Christ and encouragement with others.



“My dear family, don’t cry, just make sure without a doubt that you are saved, and we will be together for ever one day. There is nothing or nobody worth losing the glories of Heaven.”

Betty Lou Hicks May 22, 1933 - May 05, 2023
Betty Lou Williams Hicks, 89, of S. Steed St., Candor NC 27229, died Friday, May 5, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Graveside Service will be 2:30 PM Sunday at Macedonia Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Sunday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home.



Born on May 22, 1936, she was the daughter of Stella Havana and Lexie Williams. She was a member of Macedonia Presbyterian Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Charles Derek Hicks.



Betty Lou is survived by her ex-husband, Claude Hicks of Candor; daughter, Betsy Hicks Harper (Scott) of Candor; 3 sons, Danny Hicks (Sue), David Hicks (Debra), and Gerald Hicks, all of Candor; Granddaughter, Deanne Williams (Patrick); Great-grandchild, Briella Williams; 4 step-great-grandchildren, Bridget Millen, Selene Williams, Little Patrick Williams, and Aiden Williams.

Vernon C. Kearns June 08, 1934 - May 03, 2023
Vernon C. Kearns, 88, a lifetime resident of Denton, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the home of his daughter.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 7 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Chris Smith, and Rev. Charlie Collins officiating. Interment will be held privately at Chapel Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.

Vernon was born June 8, 1934, in Davidson County the son of Thurman Kearns and Essie Russell Kearns. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church. Vernon had worked in the furniture industry most of his adult life and retired from Councill Craftsman Furniture after 20 years of employment. He loved to tend to his chickens, piddle around his home, and attend “legion hut” activities.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Barnes Kearns.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa A. Kearns of Lexington; 2 grandchildren, Davin J. Ball and Brooke A. Ball.
