Sarah Anne Strickland went to be with her Lord on June 9, 2023.



Sarah was born March 19, 1980, to Frank and Sheila Stickland in Pulaski Virginia. She is survived by her husband; Marty Johnson, daughter; Stella Gaskins, parents Frank Strickland (Anne) and Sheila Hall (Ed), sister, Marybeth Tedesco (Anthony), sisters; Samantha and Alexandra Hall, nephew; Philip, beloved Papa; Johnny Miller, Aunts Donna Williams (Philip), Gina Idol (Craig), Robyn Fulwider (Bill), Lori Braun (Tom), and cousins galore!



Sarah enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Stella, her family, and her dog, Romeo. Her love of fashion and makeup led her to a career in cosmetology. Sara followed her passion and ultimately opened her own hair salon.

Merle Reid Scott January 31, 1944 - June 18, 2023
Merle Reid Scott, born January 31, 1944, lost her hard-fought battle with lung cancer on June 18, 2023.
Born and raised in Davidson County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mearlene Cecil Reid. She was educated in the Davidson County School System, graduating from North Davidson High School in 1962. On June 23, 1962, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Gray Scott at the Friedberg Church Parsonage and was married by the Reverend William Marshall. They had three children and lived a long happy life together until his passing in 2004.

She worked at RJ Reynolds, retiring in 2000. After retirement, she and Kenneth moved from Davidson County to live their dream at Lake Norman boating, swimming, and fishing. Merle also loved working with and admiring her flowers, watching the greedy birds in the birdfeeders, and listening to a variety of music.

Merle had a love for life. Her smile was contagious and would light up a room. She was a shining star that people would gravitate to. You wanted to be her friend as soon as you met her. She loved spending time with her family, going on family trips when her children were younger, and having family cookouts and get-togethers. She also valued spending time with her friends, whether it was traveling all over the world or playing a feisty game of cards during the week. She was a caring person, volunteering for various organizations such as Meals on Wheels, Hospice of Catawba County, food pantries, and soup kitchens.

Merle was proceeded in death by her parents, Frank and Mearlene Reid, her loving husband of 42 years Kenneth Gray Scott, and her two brothers, Joe Reid, and Larry Reid.

Merle is survived by her three children, Charles Keith Scott (Beverly) of Southmont, Angela Dawn Scott of Winston-Salem, and Kimberley Ann Banks (Chip) of Kernersville. While she loved her children, her two surviving grandsons, Zachary Taylor Scott (Parul) of Cornelius and Henry Gray Banks of Kernersville, were the true lights of her life. She is also survived by her sister Pat Watson (Herb) of Winston-Salem and her sister-in-law Mary Ann Scott (Farrell) of Wilmington.

Maurice (Pop) Kilgore Hodges May 18, 1937 - June 18, 2023
Maurice (Pop) Kilgore Hodges Jr. age 86, transitioned to his Heavenly home Sunday afternoon at Hinkle Hospice House after a period of declining health.



A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm Friday June 23, 2023, in Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Koontz and Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the funeral and other times at the son’s house 109 Serenity Lane, Lexington NC 27295.



Pop was born in Norfolk Virginia on May 18, 1937, to Maurice Kilgore Hodges Sr. and Helen Fowler Hodges. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and retired as the director of Safety for Billings Freight Systems. He was a charter member of D.C. Fireman’s Honor Guard and served as Chaplin, He was treasurer, of the D.C. Rescue Squad, a member of American Legion Post 8, treasurer, of the D.C. Public Safety Assoc. Inc. was a recipient of the Long Leaf Pine Award, treasurer of the D.C. Fireman’s Fraternal Death Benefit and a member of West Lexington Fire and Rescue for over 35 years. He was a certified Chinese Interpreter serving in the Far East theater.





Pop loved serving his Lord and Savior and had a Gospel singing ministry for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed being outside, playing golf, feeding and watching his birds. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Maurlen Lutz and Sarah Scherbarth.

Garry Daniel Johnson January 18, 1946 - June 19, 2023
Garry Daniel Johnson, 77, of Lexington, passed away Monday, June 19, 2023, at his home.



A graveside service will be held 10 AM Thursday, June 22, 2023, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Preacher Clyde Akers officiating.



The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.



Mr. Johnson was born January 18, 1946, in Davidson County, to Rob Roy Johnson and Maggie Louise Hedrick Johnson. He liked watching Westerns and spending time with his family. Prior to his retirement from Lowe’s, Garry was a baseball and softball coach for 12 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronald Johnson and Joel Johnson; and two sisters, Bobbi Dockery and Annie Mae Cooper.



Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nancy Marie Cross Johnson of the home; four sons, Skipper Johnson (Lisa) of Lexington, Stacey Johnson of Raleigh, Michael Johnson of Charlotte, and Marty Johnson of Lexington; four grandchildren, Emily Hedrick, Stella Gaskins, Asher Johnson, and Aspen Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Ellie Hedrick and Gunner Hedrick.

Nancy Lewis September 22, 1938 - June 16, 2023
Nancy Marie Lewis, 84, of Candor, NC passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 at UNC Medical Center.

A celebration of life service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, June 23 at Briggs Candor Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jamie Sink officiating. Inurnment will follow at Candor Cemetery where the family will greet friends after the service.

Nancy was born September 22, 1938 in Montgomery County, NC the daughter of Archie Haithcock and Virginia Stout. She attended Community Baptist Church in Candor and retired from working in the textile industry. Nancy loved spending time in the kitchen and was well known for amazing chocolate pound cake. If you were fortunate enough to visit her, she would always offer you something to eat. You never left her house hungry. She also had an abundance of love for animals. There wasn’t an animal she could not train, even her latest love (Kitty). She loved spending time with family and loved ones. Her sense of humor, strong will, and wit will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Graham Lewis.

She is survived by her sons, Rick Lewis and Bruce Lewis; daughter, Teresa Lewis; 3 grandchildren, Aletta Whitley (Mark), Neal Lewis (Pamela), and Todd Lewis; 3 great-grandchildren, Natalie, Anna, and Chase.

Her family would like to thank Pamela Lewis, Janet Morgan, and Laura Hancock for you unconditional love and care for Nancy. Her presence will always be felt in our hearts. Nancy will be missed by all those who were blessed to know her.

Peggie Vanhoy Berrier May 22, 1939 - June 17, 2023
Peggie Vanhoy Berrier, 84, of Vanhoy Drive, Denton, NC passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at her residence.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 21, at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Claudie Harrison officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens.

Peggie was born on May 22, 1939, in Davidson County, NC to William Clarence Vanhoy and Mabel Grubb Vanhoy. She was a member of Grubbs Grove Church and had attended business college. Peggie retired from Burlington Industries. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Berrier; son, Clarence Thomas Berrier; brothers, Bobby, C.J., and Eugene Vanhoy; and a sister, Jane Vanhoy.

She is survived by son, Coy Berrier and wife Joanna of Denton; daughter, Sherra Berrier Bodenhamer and husband Todd of Denton; sisters, Alma McDowell of Denton and Marie Hill of New London; 5 grandchildren, James Smith, Thomas Smith, Bryan Bodenhamer, Hunter Berrier, and Holden Berrier; 4 great-grandchildren, Madison Cole, Allison Smith, Vicen Bodenhamer, and Isiah Smith.
