Benny Wade McCrary January 5, 1950 — January 20, 2026 Lexington
Benny Wade McCrary, 76, passed away January 20, 2026, at his home.

Visitation will be held 4:00 to 6:00 PM, on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.

Benny was born January 5, 1950, in Davidson County to the late James Bert “JB” and Zelma Mock McCrary. He proudly served in the US Army and then went to work at PPG and attended Friendship Church. He loved fishing and hunting.

Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Barbara Phillips McCrary; his brother, Greg McCrary (Billie); sisters, Shirley Darr (Chuck), Judy Outen (Joe), Donna Weisner (Jerry), and Tammy Bridges (Albie), several nieces and nephews, and his special pet, Pumpkin.

Douglas Wayne Apt September 24, 1943 — January 18, 2026 Lexington
Douglas Wayne Apt, 82, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away on January 18, 2026, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.

Douglas was born on September 24, 1943, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Lewis P. Apt and Blanche Jones Apt. He worked for many years as a brakeman with Southern Railroad and was a member of Grace Alliance Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Ann Fisher Apt; his sons, Jeff Apt (Robin), Dirk Apt (Teresa), and Jonathan Apt; his stepson, Kevin Fisher (Jaime); and his stepdaughters, Kristy Leonard (Everett) and Heidi Myer (Will). He is also survived by one grandchild, Torsten Apt.

James Byrd May 16, 1944 — January 19, 2026 Lexington
James (Jim) Richard Byrd, 81 of Lexington, passed away on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Tyro Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Foster officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

Jim was born on May 16, 1944, in Davidson County to the late Isaac Sanford Byrd and Ella V. Whitaker Byrd. He retired from PPG Industries where he worked as training manager. Jim was baptized at Reeds Baptist Church. He was a lifelong member of Tyro Methodist Church where he served on every committee, sang in the choir, and enjoyed the Methodist Men until his health would not allow him to attend. Jim was a big kid at heart, fun-loving and tenderhearted. He loved his family fiercely and was surrounded by females most of his life. He was overprotective of his wife and daughters and was known to check the tire tread on the vehicle of anybody that wanted to date one of his daughters. Jim loved his friends at PPG, church, camping in Sparta, golfing, and participated in anything that was going on. Jim loved his five granddaughters and often told people how proud he was of them and how blessed he was. His great-grandchildren were a great joy for him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Jeff Leonard; brother, Harlton Whitaker and sisters, Doris Sharpe and Barbara Bailey.

Richard Allen Plowman, Sr. May 4, 1941 — January 18, 2026 Denton
Richard Allen Plowman, Sr., age 84, of Denton, North Carolina, peacefully entered into the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Atrium Health Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He was born on May 4, 1941, in Anson County, North Carolina, to the late Brown Lowe Plowman and Martha Knotts Plowman.

For the majority of his lifetime, Richard dedicated himself to serving in the ministry as a preacher. His passion for faith was complemented by his creative spirit as a painter, showcasing his appreciation for both the spiritual and aesthetic dimensions of life. Richard had a profound love for his family, often fondly referring to his wife, Lois Dingess Plowman, as his angel, a reference to their meeting at Bojangles which he cherished deeply.

Liselotte “Lee” Davis, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel.

The family invites those who wish to attend to a reception following the service at Lot 63: Bakery, Coffeehouse, & Pub, 614 S Main St. Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

Lee was born on August 1, 1935, in Freiburg, Germany, to the late Reinhard Hohweiler and Augusta Gabelmann Hohweiler.

Jerry Leonard August 3, 1941 — January 18, 2026
Jerry Leonard finally found peace and went to be with his Savior on January 18, 2026. In 1975, Jerry accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. From that time on, he said this world was not his home. But he had a hard time living for the Lord while walking in this world. He now is at rest.

He was born August 3, 1941, in Currytown to Marvin Elvin Leonard and Lorene Curry Leonard. He enjoyed doing projects, shooting pool, and was a fanatic flea marketer to the point of hoarding. In his later years, his health declined and he could no longer do these things, was very depressed and was ready to go to Heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Marty Franklin Curry; brother and sister-in-law, Winfred Leonard Sr. and Elsie Brown Leonard.
