Jeanette Russell September 27, 1939 — January 15, 2026
Jeanette Swicegood Russell passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 86 years old.

Jeanette’s husband, Charles Edmond Russell, Sr., preceded her in death in June 2006. She is survived by her son Charles Edmond Russell, Jr. and his wife Aimee Katherine Russell and two grandchildren Katherine Elizabeth Russell (Katie Beth) and Charles Edmond Russell, III (Case). She is also survived by two nephews Jack Burke, III and Allen Burke.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, Allen C. and Clara B. Swicegood. Her twin sister, Janet Swicegood Burke, and her younger brother, Anthony Craig Swicegood, also preceded her in death.

Thomas (Tommy) Wayne Brigman, 65, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away on January 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born to Shirley Anne Davis and Larry Wayne Brigman, Tommy grew up with a strong sense of loyalty, humor, and heart — qualities he carried with him throughout his life.

Tommy was a devoted father to his daughter, Kymberly Brigman, and a proud father-in-law to Nicholas Sanchez. His world revolved around his grandchildren — Aiden, Noah, Malaki, Lorenzo, and Selena — who brought him more joy than anything else in life. He loved being Papaw and made it known through every hug, smile, and story he shared with them.

James Gathings July 7, 1942 — January 18, 2026 Lexington
James Eugene Gathings, age 83, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born on July 7, 1942, he was the son of the late Morris Cecil Gathings and Virginia Beckham Gathings. James proudly served his country in the United States Army and later devoted many years of hard work to LaFave Construction, where he retired as a superintendent. He was a man known for his strong work ethic, quiet strength, and dedication to providing for his family. James was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Joretta Gibson; and his brothers, Gerald Gathings, Cecil Gathings, Barry Gathings, Roger Gathings, and David Gathings.

Mr. Richard “Ricky” Stephen Deaton, age 70, of Lexington passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at his resident. Ricky was born on September 18, 1955 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Adra Claudette Deaton and the late, Richard Cleveland Deaton. Ricky was of the Baptist faith. He retired as an independent car dealer, owning Valley Motors. He had a love for old cars and loved to go to a car show.

Desma Louise “Lou” Thomas Atkins, 79 of Thomas Rd., Jackson Springs, died Friday, January 16, 2026 at her residence. Funeral Service will be 2:30 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, with Sig Black and Chaplain Rae Ferrarini officiating.

Born in Durham on March 1, 1946, she was the daughter of Arthur Sherrill and Margaret Desma Brown Thomas. She was a poultry broker and her real passion lay in the creation of Sandhills Animal Rescue League for dogs and cats. She attended High Point College. She also played clarinet in the East Montgomery High School Band and played forward for East Montgomery Ladies Basketball, scoring 45 points in a single game.

Rossilea Lanning Wrenn, 77, of Lexington, passed away, Sunday, January 18, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born, June 23, 1948, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Roscoe Lanning and the late Valeda Koontz Lanning.

Rossilea was a loving and supportive wife. She was also a very talented artist and was gifted with skills to paint beautiful works of art. She married the love of her life, Thomas Wrenn on October 30, 1982, they cherished 43 wonderful years of marriage. She was the co-owner of Lexington Fire Extinguisher for many years.

She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Wrenn of the home; daughter, Amy Wrenn Oxner (Tony) of Southmont and Cindy Wrenn of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Zachary Hayes (Madison) of Greensboro, Aaron Oxner (Katherine) of Southmont, Devin Chang (James) of Cary, and Brynn Surratt of Winston-Salem; and great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Hayes, Alice Udel, and Rachel Sams.

Taylor Glosson September 10, 1988 — January 14, 2026
Joseph Taylor Glosson, 37, of Burlington, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, unexpectedly at home.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington. In keeping with Taylor’s personality and love for sports, the family asks that everyone dress casually and wear their Tar Heels gear or their favorite team’s apparel.

Taylor was born in Davidson County on September 10, 1988, to Joseph Clifton Glosson and Kimberly Heitman Walker (Chad). Taylor was an avid sports fan, especially cheering on the Carolina Tar Heels and the Oakland Raiders. He enjoyed fishing and golf, gaming and music, and had a deep love for animals, particularly dogs. Taylor was known for his kind heart and generous spirit. He was a respected team leader in his workplace at Publix, where he consistently looked out for others and went out of his way to help his coworkers. His loyalty, humor, and genuine care for people made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
